Muamko Mpya is a Swahili pharse which means “a new dawn”. The organization is a membership organization located in Lamu county, North Coast of Kenya.

Muamko Mpya is a registered Community Based Organization under registration number CSD/HDM/LMU/C.B.O/VOL II/126 under the ministry of gender, culture and social services.

Muamko Mpya Mission is Health and Safety. We are trying to close the gap between healthcare
providers and security personnel in matters of LGBT and Sex Workers

Our mission is to amplify the unheard voices of marginalized communities by fostering equal
access to services and opportunities through dissemination of appropriate information and technical support to promoting reliable access to justice, health care services, economic empowerment and good governance.

Our vision is to fight against spread of HIV/AIDS, increase awareness, provide equal treatment,
sensitization and fight for human rights for marginalized community.

Muamko Mpya CBO objectives are:

To develop an advocacy strategy to influence abolishing of punitive legislation that impede LGBT and Sex Workers rights.

To provide access to paralegal service, mediation, dispute resolution and legal representation for LGBT and Sex Workers.

To promote access to responsive quality health care services, facilities & appropriate information for LGBT and Sex Workers.

To accelerate LGBT and sex work activism through community based approaches and individual capacity building.

To develop a multi-stakeholders violence response mechanism to ensure security for LGBT and sex workers.

Geographical coverage is Lamu Town, Shella, Mokowe and Mpeketoni.

Muamko Mpya is governed by a board of Managers: the chair, secretary, treasurer and two members. The secretary to the board heads the secretariat that is responsible for the general organizational management and the day to day running of the organization.
